Yesterday morning I had a fairly major spinal surgery, Anterior Cervical Discectomy & Fusion (ACDF ). You should google it to see some cool pictures of the surgery. They removed the discs between my C5-T1 vertebrae & fused them together with a metal plate. I had degenerated & herniated discs in my spinal column that were pinching nerves causing terrible pain & weakness in my left shoulder/arm & hand. I finally felt my pinky & ring finger for the first time in 4 months. I’m still in a lot of post OP pain but already can tell I’m on the road to recovery. You can see what I think about Jello in one of the pics. I went for my first walk this morning. Recovery is 3-6 months so I’ve got a long way to go, but my spirits are high & I’ve got an incredible support network of family & friends. Lauren is the best nurse I could ask for, I feel very fortunate to have her. Keep those positive vibes coming my way, I’m going to need all of can get. #cervicalfusion #ACDF #Emoryhospital #spinalfusion #spinalsurgery #jellosucks
I built this coffee table for an incredible client. Summerville Law Firm. The wood is Water Oak finished with WaterLox. The base is 2” steel tube legs welded to 1”x2” cross pieces. I’m not the best welder but these didn’t turn out too bad. Thank you @eutree for kiln drying & thickness planning. Thank you @fredmartinweldingco for the raw steel. Glass Inc did a great job cutting the glass to match the natural curves of the wood. @glassinc @waterlox #woodworking #liveedge #festool #ibuild #homemade #makeshit #bestclientever
A few more pics of Napoli. Until next time.
Our last day, in Napoli. Another beautiful city. We had some of the best pizza of our lives & explored the cave/tunnel/water storage system under the city. It was used in WW2 as a bomb shelter & many folks lived down there. There are literally hundreds & hundreds of miles of underground passageways. It was really cool. It’s now 3:30am & we’re about to head to the airport. It’s been real.
Cool trucks & other beautiful things. This place is amazing. We’re not going home. Sorry kids, we love you.
Our hotel in Sorrento on the Almafi coast. Pretty much paradise. Yummy food
Pompeii was incredible. The city was completely covered in 18’ of ash when Mt. Vesuvius erupted. Interesting train ride that had a very flavorful B.O. smell. Definitely in Europe.
Obligatory Vatican pics. Delicious pizza & beautiful piazzas with our own private band.
It rained ALL day in Rome today. We saw the Pantheon, the Forum & the Colosseum which was incredible (& wet ). Had some delicious pizza for lunch & a very disappointing pasta dinner. The saltiest, most under cooked pasta I’ve ever had. But life is good.
The view from of Montipulciano (sp ) from the top of the tower, Wine cellar from the 1300’s, incredible meat & cheese lunch overlooking Tuscany (eaten off cardboard plates on my knee ), our next humble abode in another tower & once course of an an amazing dinner. It’s was Red shrimp carpaccio w/tomato’s & mozzarella mousse. Tuscany is an incredible place. Heading to Rome today.
The view of Sienna from our own private castle. Sorry Sus, it’s no longer yours. @mcmarlson
We stayed in this incredible castle outside Sienna. Check out how they get our bags up.
I haven’t posted anything in quite a while, but I can’t pass up sharing this trip. Lauren & I are celebrating our 10yr wedding anniversary sans kids in Italy. We arrived yesterday in Florence. Heading to Sienna in a bit. Damn this place is beautiful.
A little bench I made for @ngycmindy & @gjsearcey . Pine top finished with oil modified water based poly, 1”x3” tube steel sprayed with a clear coat. Simple hooks for her Yoga studio. #bench #woodworking #woodandsteel #festool #festoolsander #festoolfan #lincolnmigwelder #lincolnwelder #dowoodworking #shopbuilt
