What does my Wednesday look like for me now? Woke up at 5:10 cause yeah I snoozed, changed, got my preworkout, went downstairs to meditate and workout. Checked in with my group. Ran upstairs to wake up my babes, laid out their clothes and jumped in the shower and told them it was race to see who was done first (dressed, brush teeth and fix bed ). They won 😉 Went down to get them breakfast, pack lunches, shake my breakfast, brushed hairs and walk the dog. And off to school. Then a Target Run🎯 (where I found some very cute shoes ) came home washed dishes, made my celery juice and had oatmeal. And then sat down to do work. I share because many times people think it magically happens. I run around too. A lot of times I repeat myself a lot to my kids. Constantly nudging them to move. I play games to make them get ready faster. Yeah I’m tired by the time I pick them up but I love it. I used to be me away from them. I barely saw them on a Wednesday. Stuck at a job that sucked the life out of me working for someone else’s dream and their schedule. Unappreciated. Now I get to help women, work on myself all while I work from home and care for my kids. Crazy thing is you can do this too! You can make the decision to start and try something new and see how hard work can bring on some amazing things and amazing people into your life. If you feel stuck at a job or in your fitness just know you don’t have to be. You can make that change. I’m only a message away to help you start💕

Darkness promotes the release of melatonin in his brain, which signals to your baby’s body that it’s time to sleep. Darkness tells the brain to produce melatonin, light tells the brain to stop producing it (That’s why it’s hard to fall asleep with the light on ).⠀ ⠀ Babies are NOT afraid of dark! Darkness was the only thing your baby knew for nine long months. Babies find darkness comforting, soothing and calming. Fear of the dark doesn’t begin to develop until the preschool years, so let your baby sleep better by keeping her room dark. ⠀ ⠀ There’s no need to keep the lights on at nap time to teach him the difference between day and night- instead, you can bring her outside for a few minutes of sunshine between naps. That will do the trick. ⠀ ⠀ I recommend keeping your babies room very dark, but if you really want to use a nightlight it’s best to use a nightlight with a red bulb. Out of all the colored lights, red light causes the least disruption to your baby’s melatonin levels and won’t jolt her brain when she sees it. ⠀ ⠀ How do you keep your baby’s room? Light? Good thing that sweet face can melt my heart because he was calling my name at 9:45 PM, 12:30 AM, 2:30 AM and 5:30 AM. 😬😭😴 ❤️ From day one, this guy has done things differently than my first four. It’s taught me a lot (A LOT ) about mothering, babies and myself. It doesn’t matter how many you have, they are each unique - as are their needs, preferences and desires. ❤️ I know all the talks and tricks and tips on how to “get a baby to sleep through the night.” I’ve heard all the advice and I’ve probably shared a decent amount over the years as well. But ... it’s not always as easy as it sounds. ❤️ This sweet baby is giving me a good lesson in mama-humility and while it’s leaving me a little sleepier than usual, it’s also been a good lesson for my soul and given me a whole new understanding for mamas who deal with this. ❤️ Also - PSA for mamas - lack of sleep is a REAL DEAL and can take a toll on your mind, body and soul. If you are walking this road, the best thing you can do is give yourself LOTS of grace in other areas of your life (laundry, dishes, cleaning, to-do lists, “all the things” ) so that you can still get the rest that you need. Sleep deprivation can wreck havoc on your health so make sure you are finding a way to get the REST you need! And don’t forget to fuel your body with real food, water, probiotics, and vitamins. ❤️ You got this, mama. Being a working mom is exhausting. I love that I get to bring my little one with me to work, but sometimes it makes trying to get my job done, difficult. These past couple of weeks have been crazy, and normally I don't get a nap until Friday after a long week. Well today (Tuesday ) everything finally caught up to me. I tried getting Naveen to crash out, but he didn't want to. Finally, I just laid him on the floor next to me, and holding each other's hands, we fell asleep. ❤ We just laid there, sleeping for a little cat nap, and it's these kind of moments I cherish (plus many others ). As a mom, I get it. I know plenty of parents that co-sleep and those that swear it works in helping everyone sleep better. Some even have more than one kid in bed with them. More power to them. If they enjoy it and do it safely, then that’s great. Co-sleeping isn’t for everyone, so don’t feel like you are any less than the amazing parent you are, if co-sleeping isn’t working for your family. . . I completely sympathize with the parents that want to co-sleep but to not have their child wake them up a bazillion times through the night. That would be magical, no question. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work for a few reasons. . . One, toddlers are often very animated sleepers. It’s just a fact. They twist and turn and readjust themselves a thousand times a night and will often end up completely on the other side of a queen-sized bed with their feet towards the headboard. . . Two, your baby thinks you’re just the greatest. When they wake up in the night and see you lying next to them, they get excited. They want you to interact with them so they try to engage with you, and since they’re still not aware of societal norms, they don’t know enough to lay a hand on your shoulder and quietly whisper, “Are you awake?” They do it by, say, jamming their finger in your ear or slapping you on the forehead. It’s not polite, but man it’s effective! . . So why can’t sleep training alleviate this? Simply put, because it’s not a sedative. Sleep training is all about teaching your baby the skills to fall back to sleep on their own when they wake up in the night. That’s a slight simplification, but at its core, that’s what we’re doing. We’re not doing anything that will get your baby to fall into stage 3 sleep and stay there for a solid 11 hours. That’s a job for Ambien, and there are obvious reasons why we’re not going down that road. . . If you’ve already been co-sleeping for quite a while and have decided it’s time to reclaim your bedroom, but your little one has other ideas, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’ve worked with families to get them through this exact scenario with tremendous success and I can help yours too.

Bedtime routines are so essential for everyone! Newborns and up! We all have something we do before getting in bed and then falling asleep. . . This helps ease our body and signal our mind that bedtime is near. You want the routine to be as calming as possible and not to overstimulate our already tired little one. . . You will want to avoid any rough housing, intense play, screen time at minimum 1 hour before you start their bedtime routine. Their routine should only be 20-30 minutes long. Just enough time it doesn’t drag on and confuse them. . . Here are a few pictures of Nathan during his bedtime routine. We start with a bath & have him brush his teeth. We then go to his bedroom and put his lotion and pajamas on. Now that he is older we let him pick out what book he wants to read. He is only allowed 1-2 books. Somedays he is grumpy and makes the routine not enjoyable but that’s life. I can’t expect each day for a perfect play by play bedtime routine. But what I can expect is for his independent sleep skills to always be there and for him to go to sleep and stay asleep for the night. . . How’s bedtime in your home?

Feeding A LOT at night? Strategy #4 for reducing night wakings is the most gentle way you can work on it. Just because it is gentle doesn't mean that it won't work! Patience is key. I would use this method in combination with strategy #2 posted last week. This way you are keeping good feeds in the night as well when your baby needs them! Formula Fed Babes: ** Decrease the amount of ounces in the bottle by 0.5 oz every 2 nights. This is a very gradual reduction of total ounces. ** You can follow strategy #2 by setting up a timed space between where you offer a large feed. For example, if setting up a 3 hour spacing you could say any feed that happens in under 3 hours will be the decreased feed versus sleep coaching through the feed. This way baby isn't having a large feed at every waking and learning how to consolidate the calories into fewer big feeds. Breastfeeding Babes: ** Decrease the length of time you are feeding by 2 minutes every 2 nights. This can be trickier if your baby isn't feeding for the same length of time at each feed. But, if you notice that there are a couple great feeds in the night then you know they probably need these. The ones that are shorter you could work on decreasing the length of time at the breast in hopes of consolidating more calories into those better feeds.
